Mental & Emotional Health for Black Male Students

Much of my work mentoring young black males addresses mental health and emotional wellness. Thanks to a curriculum provided through "A Call To Men's" (https://www.acalltomen.org/healthy-manhood/) program, we led dozens of young Black men to reject living within "the man box." The man box describes the stereotypical definition of masculinity, which leads to a lack of achievement, trauma, violence against women, and entry into the criminal justice system. The young men were taught to reject low self-worth, ask for and offer help, express their emotions, and be vulnerable. We learned the pressure and expectations young black men face daily. Teachers and leaders pay attention. Here are a few lessons we learned from their stories and experiences.
